How We Met
Kevin and I met when he was in 6th grade and I was in 7th grade. We became friends almost immediately in school and hung out at friends’ houses consistently. Over the years our friendship evolved and we went on our first date in 2007 to see Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix (we have the movie ticket framed in our home)! Though our middle school romance didn’t continue to high school, we rekindled our relationship after college when Kevin asked me on our “second” first date. The rest is history!
How They Asked
Montauk has always been my favorite place in the world. Growing up, my grandparents owned condos on the beach and every summer my father’s family had a mini “reunion.” Fifty of our immediate and extended family would bring out food, drinks, games, and beach garb for a week full of family fun. It was something I looked forward to every year. When Kevin and I began dating, I couldn’t wait to bring him to Montauk and share my special place with him.
Soon, it became just as special to Kevin and we created our own favorite memories on “The End.” Each year we would wake up before sunrise and jump in the car in our PJs and bring blankets to Camp Hero to watch the sunrise over the waves. In recent years my sisters and brother joined us as well and it became a little tradition.
This year was no different. Kevin and I woke up at 4:45 and knocked on my sibling’s door. Holding back yawns, we jumped into the car and made our way to Camp Hero. At 5:30, Kevin and I went to the edge to take a photo together (another tradition), and I realized he wasn’t next to me. I turned around and he was down on one knee! It was a fairytale. Sunrise, in my favorite place in the world, with my closest family.
