How We Met
Jaime: Meeting each other and establishing a friendship was key to what would later make us closer and drive us into a relationship. When we first met, we were both into going out, partying and socializing, each on their own unique world, but always coming back to our “Latin” roots. It’s these roots that we would both call us to go out and enjoy a night of pure dancing and fun. In one of the constant back-and-forth invitations, one of us was at a Miami Heat Game and the other was out with coworkers in the infamous “Tu Candela” (the original hole in the wall, not the newer one). Coming out after the game, I was there until almost closing, and as I was leaving, I bumped into Meli. Meli couldn’t going home without dancing to a song with me. At that very moment is when we first kissed. I says that maybe it was the drinks, but Meli says it was the magic of the music. We will never know the “how,” but we now know the why, which was for us to be with each other. Ever since many challenges and adversities have come our way, individually and as a couple, but is by overcoming each one of them, that has made our feelings for each other grow stronger.
We have turned into travel junkies, having visited Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and various countries in Central and South America, as well as many cities throughout the US. We share a love for adventure and exploring, and it has become our thing compete over who packs the best and the quickest (Jaime currently leads the contest). It is certain that growing our faith in God and setting our eyes to him as a couple, is how we have managed to be happy, in love, and eager to see what the future holds for us. We support, encourage, pray and rejoice with each other. As the days go by we cannot wait to be able to do what we both love, and that is to share our happiness with our most loved ones.
How They Asked
March, 6, 2021 – Teotihuacan Pyramids, Mexico
Jaime asked Meli to pack a change of clothes in a small backpack, with the excuse that they’d be staying overnight. Once Jaime picked her up, he asked her for her passport, and he can really tell she had an idea. Although he saw her “knowing” what was coming, she had no idea how.
He had reserved a very distinct, historic hotel in Mexico City, near the Teotihuacan Pyramids, a unique area for hot air balloon rides. They both have been longing to live that experience, so it gave him the perfect idea of how to propose.
As they arrived at the airport, he kept joking about where they were about to embark until she sat on the plane and realized it was Mexico City. After the chauffeur picked them up, on the way to the hotel, he gave her small hints of what they were doing.
While having diner, he told her they needed to wake up at 4 am, and saw the shock on her face! A van picked them up to take them to the place for the balloon ride. There, he lied, saying he needed to sign a special waiver. Really, he went to plan with the pilot about what time to pop the question. In mid-air the pilot made her believe they had some issues, and needed to descend, only to find a truck racing towards them, with a sign that said, “Will you marry me?”.
When she finally noticed the sign on the ground, she just looked back at Jaime with a laughing, mischievous face, as he held the ring box just waiting for her to turn around. At this very moment with teary eyes, she whispered YES! Once they landed, they popped champagne and Mr. Mario Bros (the balloon pilot) recited a beautiful prayer. From there they had breakfast and were in a rush to get back to the city, explore and eat some real street tacos, all in just a few hours. They headed back to Miami that same day, a very special 23 hours in Mexico City.
