How We Met
My name is Melissa, and my fiance Christopher and I grew up less than 10 minutes away from each other. Same schools, same circle of friends, but our paths never crossed. In fact I never knew his name until high school. Christopher, became best friends with my brother, who is also named Chris. They were best buds, but I was away in college and never really got to know Christopher. After college I found out I was pregnant with a man who wasn’t the one for me. After my beautiful daughter, Sophie, was born I decided it was best if I left the relationship. I was going through a horrible break-up and custody battle that left me feeling ruined.
My brother, Chris tried his best to cheer me up each day but nothing worked. But one day- everything changed. One particular morning, my brother called me and asked if I wanted to grab some lunch with him and some friends. When I arrived to the restaurant, I saw my future fiance Christopher sitting beside my brother. Within 2 seconds he had me smiling like I hadn’t smiled in years. It sounds cliche, but I knew he was the one whom I would spend the rest of my life with. That day was August 3rd, and I will always consider it one of the luckiest days of my life.
My daughter, Sophie ,was 3 months old at the time, shes now almost 3. Because of him my daughter is lucky enough to have 2 wonderful fathers in her life. He is the second best thing to ever happen to me and I am forever thankful for that blessed, August morning.
how they asked
It was a beautiful fall Saturday in September. We decided to take my daughter, Sophie, apple picking. My two cousins met us in the orchard where we spent the morning walking, talking, and picking. Chris suggested we walk up a hill to a spot that overlooked the entire orchard. It was the perfect scene. Once we arrived, I heard Chris call for me. When I turned around, he grabbed my hands and told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and Sophie. He dropped to his knees, with my daughter by his side.
I was a blubbering mess, but was so unbelievably happy.
Our daughter grabbed us, and together we shared our first official hugs and kisses as a family.
It was perfect. I didn’t know at the time, but my cousins video-tapped the whole thing for us to have forever. We left the orchard and met up with family to celebrate. It was the Best. Day. Ever.
