Meghan and Sterling
How We Met
Sterling and I met for the first time about 6 years ago. We had mutual friends so we knew of each other but that was about it. It all really started when I was a freshman in college and my friend and I went to a party and we saw him there. We talked for a little bit but that was it. A few weeks later I saw him out again while I was apartment searching. We exchanged numbers and for the first few weeks he would ask to hang out and I would blow him off…whoops! I finally agreed to go on a date with him and it has been history ever since! He was so polite and chivalrous which is rare these days!
how they asked
I have always wanted to visit Bok Tower in Lake Wales, Fl. On 11/11/15 Sterling asked me if I wanted to go to Bok Tower on Sunday. I was so excited to finally have the opportunity to go! On Saturday, we had a friend’s wedding to go to so that morning Sterling dropped me off at a nail salon to get a manicure and pedicure while he went to get a hair cut. At our friend’s wedding, I caught the bouquet! Little did I know what would be happening the next day. Sunday morning, we started to get ready to leave and he mentioned that we might run into people we know since a lot of people go after church so we should try to look nice. When we got to the gardens, we walked around for a little bit and then planned to head up to the tower around 10am to hear the carillon bells. I felt horrible because we were standing in front of a “tourist” trying to take pictures of the tower. Sterling proceeded to tell me about two swans that used to live by the pond in front of the tower. He said “did you know that swans mate for life? Do you think we are going to be together for life?” I said “of course!” Sterling said, “Do you promise?” Of course I said that I promised and that is when he said, “Do you know how I promise?” as he got on one knee! I was so excited and in complete shock! That is when I also realized that the “tourist” taking pictures was actually there for us! We then continued on through the gardens when we got to the other side of the tower and both of our families were there with a champagne brunch/picnic set up! It was the second best surprise ever (behind the engagement of course)! I am so excited to be engaged to my best friend!
