How We Met
I met Joey back in university when we were both in the same social circle. I remember the way we connected instantly when we met at a formal event; he was the life of the party and I was shy and quiet, but somehow, it just clicked. At the end of the night, he disappeared and I remember kicking myself for not getting his number. It’s funny because at the time, Joey had zero social media – typically I’m an expert at finding people online and I remember trying to find him to track him down, but had no luck! I embarrassingly enough had to ask one of his friends for his number a few days later, but luckily he had been feeling the same way!
how they asked
I moved out to Los Angeles in late 2015 for a one year program at fashion school. On the last day of my first quarter, Joey wanted to take me out to dinner to celebrate; however I know all of our favourite restaurants, so when he started driving us to a “surprise” dinner somewhere special with no GPS, I had no clue where we were headed. It was a cold night nearing Christmas and we arrived at Santa Monica pier – the lights were all lit but it was quiet and intimate. He told me he wanted to get a photo of us to send to his mom for the holidays, so he set up his tripod to snap a picture. All of a sudden, he pulled out and read a beautiful letter to me. When he got down on one knee, I was a mess of tears and nerves! I said yes, and the rest is history!
We’re hoping to get married on the California coast in 2018.
