How We Met
It was October 30th, 2014. I was about to pull up to Whiskey Row, a country bar that I country 2-step at, when I received a call from my good friend and dance partner. He said, “I’m introducing you to someone tonight. Give me a thumbs up if you like him.” I answered him with a, “No, please don’t set me up with anyone and no I will not give a thumbs up- we are not in middle school!” Since I was too close to the bar to turn around and go home, I took a deep breath and walked in. That was when I first saw Chris. I was immediately attracted to him, but I wasn’t going to give my friend the satisfaction of a “thumbs up” because of this sneaky set up he planned (although I did try to give one to him later on, but he was too busy dancing!). I talked to Chris that night and taught him a few dance moves, but when it came time to leave he didn’t ask for my number.
I found myself hoping he would be there the next week and sure enough he was! He asked me if we could go out sometime and I said, “to go dancing?” He laughed and said, “Well I was hoping for a dinner, but we can dance too”.
That night I came home and told my mom about Chris and she said, “I think he’s the one.” Mother’s instinct, right?!
On that upcoming Friday we went out to dinner, went dancing, and walked around Tempe Town Lake. He asked me if he could see me again and I explained that I was free on Monday or Tuesday and he said “How about both?” From that moment on we were inseparable. On our third date (a few days later) he told me that he was moving to Chicago in three months. He understood if I didn’t want to see him anymore, but instead I moved in with him two and a half weeks later to test if we got along living with each other. We did, of course, and soon I found myself packing my bags for the Windy City to be with my love!
how they asked
On October 18th, 2016 Chris was playing in a weekly lacrosse game as a goalie. He made a save and as soon as he had the ball, a player on the other team knocked him to the ground extremely hard. He seemed to be withering in pain on the field. All of his teammates circled around him while he laid on the ground.
I sat nervously on the sidelines and asked his mom, “Should I go out there?” because I didn’t want to be the girlfriend that runs out to the field when her boyfriend is hurt. But, he was not getting up and I was getting more and more worried by the second. When she answered yes, I rushed out there not knowing if he was okay or not.
When I got to him, he wasn’t talking- just taking off his helmet. I thought he had a concussion and we would have to go to the hospital as soon as possible. I was asking him if he was okay when he started to rummage through his pocket.
He pulled out a box and I started to back up in pure confusion and excitement. On bended knee, he explained to me how happy I make him and if I would marry him! I was so in shock that I fell to my knees. I said yes!
Of course later on I found out that everyone was in on it and he was waiting the whole game for someone to hit him hard enough for it to look believable! Well, it certainly did! Afterwards, I found out that he hired a photographer to shoot the proposal and had the ref video tape it. I didn’t think he would be able to surprise me that well, but I did not know it was happening until he had the ring box in his hand and said my name! He also proposed on my parent’s 30th wedding anniversary.
There is nothing I want more in this life than to marry this amazing man and spend the rest of our lives together! I am so in love with you, Chris! Thank you for making me the happiest and luckiest woman in the world!
