How We Met

My fiancé (Will) and I met in January of 2015 and started “officially” dating shortly after. We had an immediate connection and so much in common! It just felt like we had known each other forever from the very beginning. Our journey before meeting was definitely not an easy one. We both struggled with a drug and alcohol addiction for many years. In the past, neither of us thought we would even make it to our late 20’s, much less ever get married. With lots of hard work and the help of good friends and family I am now two and a half years sober and Will is a little over three years sober. Meeting very early in our sobriety, it wasn’t always easy and we had to overcome many obstacles that your average couple does not, but together we have beaten the odds and now get to share this amazing life together.

how they asked

I always told Will that when he decided to pop the questions I had just one request; my sisters HAD to be there. My two sisters have always been my very best friends and have been there for me through thick and thin. This wasn’t exactly a simple request considering we all lived in completely different parts of the country. Fast forward three years later, Will planned a weekend getaway to New York City so I could see the big Christmas tree is Rockefeller Center. Since I was a little girl I’ve always been completely obsessed with Christmas and all of the holiday magic. I’ll just say I start listening to Christmas music at the beginning of November and my tree is up before Thanksgiving. One of my sisters lives in the city and we knew she would be the perfect tour guide during our visit. Little did I know, Will and my sisters had been planning a big surprise.

Saturday, January 6th 2018, Will, my sister, and I bundled up and ventured out in the 8 degree weather to Rockefeller plaza. When we got there my sister ran off telling me she was going to go see how much ice skating was. Me, being completely oblivious was snapping a million pictures of the tree and taking selfies of Will and I. Will took my hand and got down on one knee.

I immediately started crying, I just couldn’t believe it was actually happening. As all of this was taking place I noticed this young woman snapping a million pictures of us about 5 feet away. I whispered to Will, “who is that person taking pictures of us?!” I figured he had hired a photographer to capture the special day. Well I was completely wrong. That mysterious person took her hood and sunglasses off and said “can y’all kiss already?” I then realized this person was my other sister who traveled all the way from Denver, Colorado to surprise me. I completely lost it. Not only was the love of my life asking me to marry him but BOTH of my sisters were there for it in one of the most magical places. This was a day I’ve dreamed about my whole life. It was absolutely perfect. We celebrated the rest of the day with a delicious brunch and dinner.
