How We Met
Taylor and I met in the fall of 2016, our junior year of college! My sorority’s winter formal was coming up, and I needed to find a date to take. We had a ton of mutual friends and a few of them suggested I take him to formal. After doing a little Instagram stalking and a little push from my roommates I decide to invite this random guy to go to formal with me. Spoiler alert – it turned out to be the best decision of my life.
We officially met on Halloween, at a party where I talked his ear off the ENTIRE night about nursing school (I kid you not we did not leave the same spot all night). My friends laughed when I told them about how I spent my night, and I knew for sure that he would never want to hang out again, but when I got home that night my phone immediately rang. He told me how much he enjoyed talking to me and wished me luck on my exam, and I knew right there he was something special.
Flash forward a week and we went to formal together. We had the most amazing time and ended up staying up all night just talking and getting to know each other. Each night after that we did the same and ended up falling so hard, so fast for each other. We officially starting dating in December and I remember telling my friends within a few weeks of us dating that I had a strange feeling, and knew he was the one.
We dated throughout the rest of college and soon after we graduated both landed jobs around DC! We now live together in a tiny little apartment we call home and are so excited to start this next adventure together.
How They Asked
AHH, the really fun part – how he asked! If you know me you know that I absolutely LOVE love. Ever since I was little I have dreamed about the day I would get engaged, but this proposal was better than anything I had ever dreamt.
We had planned on going to dinner on Friday, we just weren’t sure where we wanted to go… or so I thought! That Friday morning, Taylor went to get his haircut. He came back to the apartment telling me that his barber knew the event planner at the Watergate Hotel and was able to get us a reservation that night for dinner in the igloos (side note: this was on my holiday bucket list and something I wanted to do ever since the year before). I was so excited! One of my best friends and I had already made plans to get our nails done that day for Christmas (clue #1; also thanks Taylor for organizing this). We got our nails done and hung out during the day, and when I got home I began getting ready for dinner. Taylor got home from work early and seemed anxious and nervous (clue #2), but told me he just had a rough day at work. He said that he thought we should dress up a little for dinner, which I happily went along with!
We got to the Watergate Hotel and were directed toward our own private igloo, and I was in LOVE. I absolutely love Christmas time and being in that cozy, perfectly decorated, holiday-themed igloo was as close as perfect as it gets for me. There was a bottle of champagne we had apparently pre-ordered, which confused me because we had just made the reservation that morning, right (clue #3)? We had already toasted the champagne and ordered some food when Taylor suggested that he take a picture of me to show my family the igloo. He went to the entrance of the igloo to take the picture and two women start running over right behind him. I was puzzled and wasn’t sure what was quite going on until they got a little closer. I immediately recognized one of them as one of my favorite photographers and suddenly it all added up. I knew exactly what was about to happen.
Taylor started telling me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and this is where I blacked out (no like literally I don’t remember a word he said). I was in shock and so overwhelmed with love and excitement. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and it was the easiest yes I have ever said!
Shortly after, he surprised me and told me that both of our families were inside the hotel waiting to celebrate with us. We spent the rest of the night celebrating with our families inside the igloo, and it was truly the best night of my life!
