How We Met
If you ask any Greenville, SC native what their plans are on a Thursday night in the middle of summer, chances are they are they will tell you the Greenville Drive game. The Greenville Drive is our local minor league baseball team, and on Thursdays you can get an ice cold PBR for $1 and cheers with all your friends that the weekend is right around the corner. The night we met started off like any other Thursday night. It was August 2013 and I went to the game with a big group of my girlfriends, he was there with his graduate school classmates. One of Stone’s classmates was mutual friends with a girl in my group so they came over to talk to us. He introduced us and we began making small talk, eventually finding out that we had attended the same college and had a handful of mutual friends. Small world, right? We chatted for a while and eventually went separate ways. The very next night I saw him out again, this time Stone asked me out on a date. His very words were, “Do you want to go get Italian food with me?” I politely said no. He asked me the same question 5 more times until I eventually gave in. The one thing that stands out in my memory about our first date was how natural it felt to be around him. The ‘getting to know you phase’ can be awkward, but Stone’s quirky personality had me hooked from the start. We began dating shortly after and I can’t imagine life without him by my side. About one year into our relationship, the wife of the guy who introduced us said to me, “You know the last 4 couples he has introduced to each other ended up married? I bet you will be next!” I knew in less than a year that Stone was the one I would want to spend the rest of my life with, but we were in no hurry to seal the deal. Stone was graduating from his masters program in the spring of 2015 and we had our eyes on a bucket list vacation to celebrate. We spent months planning out a 3 week tour of Europe, starting in Rome and ending in Prague. Stone had just accepted a job in Houston, Texas and I was ready and willing to follow him there, ring or no ring. In my mind, we would start talking about an engagement around Christmas of 2015, Stone had it all planned out differently.
how they asked
On May, 3 2015 we arrived in Florence, Italy. It was our 3rd day of the trip and we fell in love with the city within seconds. Florence is magical, it completely embodies the home away from home feeling. We had lunch at the open air market and spent the rest of the day exploring the city and browsing in the local shops. He bought me the most amazing pair of handmade Italian shoes and my day was made, the only catch was that I had to be ready to leave for dinner by 6pm. Stone had his heart set on seeing the sunset from San Miniato al Monte, I was so in awe over my new shoes that I didn’t question it. We arrived at the basilica at 6:15 sharp, and it was the most breathtaking view I have ever seen. We sat down on the steps and started talking, then the next thing I knew he grabbed my arm and told me to stand up. Stone looked at me and said, “Megan, from the moment I met you I knew you were different.” I don’t remember much that he said after that, but seconds later he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. There was no bone in my body that expected him to propose on that trip, he pulled off the perfect surprise. The only word that came to mind when he showed me the ring was “wow”. But thats not all he did, he then turned me around and 2 photographers waved at me with smiles from ear to ear. Stone had contacted then months before and asked them to help him pull of my dream proposal. Dovile and Matteo of MeDisProject Photography greeted me with a warm hug and told me that Stone had also planned for us to take engagement photos at a villa right outside of Florence. Our photographers made us dinner reservations at an authentic Italian restaurant for that night. We had our first date over Italian food, our first anniversary over Italian food, and were now celebrating our engagement in Italy over the most mouth watering Italian meal you could ever dream of. Two days later, Dovile and Matteo met us at our apartment in Florence and drove us 45 minutes outside of the city to Villa di Bivigliano. We spent the day taking photos, laughing a lot, and ended with another amazing sunset over the hillside of Florence.
