Megan and Philip
How We Met
Philip and I met when we were juniors in high school. We had two mutual best friends, I knew them from school, he knew them from church.
One night I received a text from my best friend, but it was actually Phil. He had stolen her phone to text someone and it ended up being me. We met the following night at their youth group. It was all downhill from there. We were both head over heels for the other.
The next month we continued to email nonstop (he didn’t have a phone to text). We would exchange lists of our favorite songs to have the other listen to. He surprised me and came to my birthday party, I knew I had it bad for this guy.
The weekend of March 9th, 2012 was the church retreat we would both be attending. An entire weekend to be together! Phil surprised me with a poem about how much he cared about me and my favorite candy: Reeces Pieces.
On March 10th, we shared our testimony with each other about the importance of our relationship with Christ. We both were tired of meaningless relationships, we wanted something real. We both knew we wanted to be in a relationship. Call us high school sweethearts, but we fell in love with each other at 17.
how they asked
I was on vacation with my family in Ormond Beach, Florida. On June 2, 2016 I had no idea my life was about to change forever.
Little did I know, Phil had grabbed my two best friends Kaitlyn and Brianna, along with his best friend Cole and driven 15 hours through the night to surprise me in Florida.
My parents told me that we were taking family pictures that evening. I was refusing to put makeup on or do my hair, but they insisted so I would look nice for the pictures. Good thing they convinced me!
We were taking pictures, meanwhile Phil and our friends were running down the beach to sneak up on us. They had originally pulled up to the wrong entrance of the beach and we were a mile farther down.
Before I knew it, I was taking a picture with my mother and brother facing the ocean, and someone grabbed my hand from behind. I was shocked to see Phil’s face and he was down on one knee!
I immediately started crying my eyes out as he said, “Megan Danielle McReynolds. I love you so much. Will you marry me?” I said YES and kissed his face. I was still so in shock that I almost forgot he still had to put a ring on my finger.
I was shaking and laughing, but he managed to put it on and a fresh set of tears started rolling down my face.
