My mom had initially asked me to go out shopping with her for the day… I hadn’t pieced it all together until the end, but my entire family was in on it. All of the sudden while my mom and I are out shopping, she tells me we have to “get home to start dinner…” This is pretty normal in my immediate family of 6, we eat constantly. I didn’t really think anything of it until we started pulling into my neighborhood and friends and family are lining the road with signs… they all have notes on them written by my fiance talking about our relationship and how excited he was to start the next chapter of life with me.
I started balling my eyes out when I finally pieced together what was happening. After passing cousins, aunts, my dad, brothers, sister, soon to be the father in law, sister in law and brother in law, I got to the end of our driveway. My cousin, who might as well be my sister was holding the last sign that said: “So I guess I have one question…” I had an empty vase waiting for me at the end of the driveway and a trail of roses in my backyard. Each rose I picked up along the way ended up saying “Will”, “you”, “marry”, “me”… and then I got to my fiance, Michael.
He was holding the last rose that said “I love you” and proceeded to get down on one knee and ask me to marry him. He was so nervous he ended up trying to put the ring on my right hand… I remember the box opening and blurting out “how in the world did you afford this?!!?” My friends and family were all waiting behind us to congratulate us! Mike even hired one of my good friends to photograph the whole thing.
It truly was an incredible and breathtaking day. I am so blessed to have him in my life and he really understands how much he and my family mean to me. After the proposal, we all went inside for lunch! It was so nice to be able to see everyone since Mike and I live so far away, it’s hard to get back home and find time to hang out with everyone together. I’m so excited to marry him in August and to see what our future brings! :)
