Megan and Matt
How We Met
Matt and I met at Merrimack College. It was my very first day of class as a freshman, and Matt was a sophomore, but we were in the same philosophy class. We developed a friendship bonding over how boring the class was and complaining about homework. Second semester, I changed my major from health science to math (which was Matt’s major), and our friendship grew stronger as he generously helped me with my homework (because he had a crush on me!). By the end of the school year, I had fallen for him too, and we’ve been together ever since.
how they asked
At the beginning of August, our two friends Mike and Leanne texted us saying they hadn’t seen us in awhile and wanted to hang out. We settled on grabbing drinks in Boston on the 26th since they had tickets to a show in the city that night. Matt and I decided to use this as an excuse to make reservations for an awesome restaurant in the city that we had eaten at once before for after our drink date with Mike and Leanne. We went into the city around 5 for drinks, and everything was totally normal. Leanne even asked me if I thought Matt was going to propose that night, and I said no. At 7, we parted ways so Mike and Leanne could go to their show, and Matt and I could go to dinner. Dinner was amazing. We had the best food and the best waiter. Matt kept saying during dinner “tonight was perfect, I really dropped the ball by not proposing” and I believed him! I even comforted him saying “It’s okay, when it happens it will be amazing.”
After dinner, we decided to go to Omni Parker House for Boston Cream Pie. We were walking through the Boston Common, and we passed by a fountain. Matt asked me to stop so he could tie his shoe (he was wearing loafers). I rolled my eyes and kept walking because 1. I thought he was just rubbing it in that he wasn’t proposing that night and 2. I really wanted Boston Cream Pie. But he didn’t follow me, and asked me to come back to him. I still had no idea what was going on.
I only realized what was happening when he pulled his chain out from under his shirt and it had a ring on it! He got down on one knee, and told me how much he loves me and asked me to marry him (as I loudly sobbed out of shock and happiness).
After, our friend Alex popped out of the bushes (he had been hiding taking pictures the whole time), and Mike and Leanne emerged from a park bench (the whole “show” was a rouse to set up the whole night!). Then we got in an uber to our favorite bar where the rest of our friends and family were waiting to celebrate with us.
