How We Met
Kris and I went to the same high school but never really knew each other. Post-college, we met through a mutual friend at a “Wing Off”, a food festival featuring hot wings in our hometown. It was a great sign we were meant to be, as we both share a strong passion for delicious wings (and food in general). Shortly after the wing off, we made plans to see each other again. After my parents bombarded our very first date and he was cool with it, I knew he was the one. We quickly discovered that we shared many common interests; Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, sports in general, brew fests, traveling, and most importantly, being family and faith oriented. After dating for almost two years, we went to visit his best friend who was stationed for the Navy in Honolulu, HI.
How They Asked
Two days into the trip, Kris proposed to me in front of a beautiful waterfall, after we hiked 2 miles in very muddy and hot conditions. I may or may not have been hiking in a long romper and sneakers, because I wanted to look nice in case he asked me a particular question. I had mud on my romper, I slipped and fell into a puddle of water and my hair was so frizzy from sweating and the humidity.
Even with all that going on, it still felt like a dream. I looked ridiculous, but it was worth it and makes for a very funny story. Oh, and I said yes. We are set to get married on May 25, 2019, with the reception in the same venue where we had a prom. We both attended prom but didn’t know each other at all. Now, look at us. It’s funny how things change.
