Megan and Julian

Megan's Proposal in Tahiti

How We Met

Julian and I met while working at a gym together during college. Julian and I became close friends for several years before dating which I think made our relationship even stronger. We were young when we met and we were still discovering who we are. Our relationship was put on pause for about a year and during that time, Julian had moved out of state. At that point, I thought that I had lost him completely. Then, to my surprise, I received a text message asking me to lunch over the Thanksgiving weekend. I was hesitant but decided “why not?” We met for lunch and he told me that he wanted to be with me. Never in a million years did I expect this! So, I took the leap. Within the next year, I had moved out of my hometown to be with him. This was our first time living together and it was in a tiny little studio in downtown Seattle. Julian and I have grown both individually and together over the last (almost) 7 years. He continues to be the sunshine in my day, the laugh that I need, the hug that makes me feel safe and the love that I’ve always wanted!

How They Asked

Julian and I made a New Years resolution to plan one BIG international trip in 2019. Julian’s brother and sister-in-law had already planned a trip to Tahiti and invited us to come along. We spent 7 days on a beautiful island. We spent the day of the proposal getting massages, having a nice lunch and spending time by the water. Julian was acting a little strange. While I was getting ready, he was very observant of how long I was taking and he kept stepping outside. I thought that he was hungry! He made me a drink and asked me to step outside for a picture.

When I stepped outside onto the deck, there was music playing. I went down to the deck overlooking the water and sat down with my drink. Julian asked me to stand up, he led me to the other side of the deck (for a picture that his brother took from their bungalow… I thought we were dancing ha ha) and took my hand. When he got down on one knee, I was in awe. He had told me that he didn’t want to get engaged for a few years and I was okay with that. He got me! I was completely surprised and of course I said yes!
