Meg and Trevor
How We Met
Trevor and I met when we were kids! He was really good friends with my brother, also named Trevor. They played baseball together in a little league in our town where we grew up. Trevors older sister, Heather, actually babysat me as well lol! Throughout many years of baseball games, cheering at the boys pop warner football games, and camping trips, our families became very close. I always had a little crush on Trev too of course. Eventually, Trev and my brother grew apart and our families went down different paths of life. Our parents remained in touch and would check in on each other from time to time, but Trevor and I had not spoken or seen each other in about 11 or 12 years. One day I got a message on Instagram from none other than Trevor Howell. He was reaching out to see how our family was doing and just to say hi. He was finishing up his last month of baseball season at Utah Valley University before coming home for the summer. We talked on the phone constantly that entire month and when he came home for the summer we ended up falling in love and the rest, they say, is history.
How They Asked
I flew out to Utah to spend my spring break with Trevor because he was mid-season and couldn’t come home or come visit me due to his busy practice and game schedule. I had been out there for about a week at that point and had pretty much spent every day sitting in the stands watching his games. His mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa all were also there that week to visit! Trevors grandparents have never missed one of his games and actually follow him all over the country to watch him play, so it wasn’t suspicious they were there! Trev’s parents had also been planning this specific trip to Utah for a long time so I didn’t suspect that anything was going on there either.
The day of the proposal I obviously had no idea what was going on, I was just going to another one of Trevor’s games. So I got ready to go and another baseball girlfriend and I drove to the field together. The game had just started when two UVU students game up to Trevor’s mom and I and asked us if we wanted to participate in a game on the field. We both agreed and they said they would come, get us around the end of the 3rd inning. I was so nervous to go out in front of so many people and play a game on the field so I already was a mess.
The 3rd inning rolls around and we are standing by the gate waiting to go onto the field. They told us that we were going to be blindfolded, spun around, and then we would race from 3rd base to home plate. The inning ended so we all ran out to the field and I was blindfolded. I am definitely freaking out under that blindfold about all of the people who are going to see me stumble around dizzily trying to run, so nerves were definitely high. As the girl undid my blindfold and I opened my eyes, I almost ran into Trevor who was standing right in front of me. He dropped to one knee and as our song played over the speakers of the stadium, he asked me to marry him.
I was crying and shaking with excitement when I turned around and saw that not only Heather and her boyfriend Vince were there to surprise me, but also my mom and dad!! I was so excited and overwhelmed with joy to see everyone. We spent the night drinking champagne and reminiscing about the days when Heather would babysit me and Trevor would come on camping trips with my family. It was the best day of my life.
