How We Met

It was Sunday night, and I was watching the Patriots game alone in my house. I decided it would be a good idea to make a dating profile on OK Cupid. Within an hour I found this incredible guy who seemed almost too perfect, but his profile said he was a Boston sports fan so I decided to message him to see if he was watching the game, which started a nonstop conversation for about 4 days. Then, we decided we just had to meet up soon so we FaceTimed. That was the first night he told me that he loved me, and it might sound insane, but I said it back.

The following day we met up for our first date in Providence – it was raining of course so we shared our first kiss underneath the awning of a Starbucks and carried on with our date. The conversation came so naturally and I felt myself drawn to him in an indescribable way. It was like I had known him all my life – I joke now that it was because he’s the man of my dreams! Not two hours into our date he told me that he was going to marry me someday, and here we are now… engaged!

how they asked

The last day of my senior year of college I had one job offer on the table that would take me only about 2 hours away from Evan and was waiting to hear back on another that would take me across the country. When I got the call that I had been offered the job and admission to graduate school in Colorado I immediately called Evan to tell him that I was going to go. Little did I know that at that moment he was out ring shopping. A few weeks later, my graduation came and went and we hopped on a plane for a quick post-graduation trip to Disney world with my family. The night before our day at the parks, we went shopping in Disney Springs and I happened upon these Star Wars couples t-shirts and convinced Evan to get one to wear with me. I also joked before going to bed that he should “fake propose” to me and see what happens. The following morning he got sick and blamed it on the water (Florida tap water is not exactly tasty). He sat with my brothers in the back seat of the car and on the tram to the entrance.

He also wore this button up shirt over his t-shirt, which I told him was ridiculous because it was almost 90 degrees outside. I took all this as just him being excited since he hadn’t been to Disney in over 15 years. Normally Evan always gives me words of affirmation and tells me all about how much he loves me and why, but that moment when we were about to take a picture in front of the Chinese theater at Hollywood Studios (perfect because we love movies – our wedding is going to have a subtle movie theme)

He quickly got down on one knee saying “So, Meg… will you marry me?”

I definitely swore loudly in front of the children out of shock and quickly said yes.

He immediately grabbed me and kissed me so fiercely that I thought I might pass out. It wasn’t until I actually got a closer look at the ring that I realized this was actually happening and started to cry.

I have never felt such a wide variety of emotions in such a short amount of time. Evan was shaking so badly that I had to help him put the ring on me. The Disney staff took out their cell phones and were taking pictures of us and two cast members ran out to give up free Mickey and Minnie bride and groom ears and pins for our celebration! All day I felt incredible as the cast members congratulated us. The best part though was about 10 minutes afterwards once the initial shock wore off and the color returned to Evan’s face. He knew that my one requirement of a proposal was that it be a total surprise and boy did he pull it off!

After accepting the position in Colorado I thought for sure that it would happen when I got back, but once he regained his composure he pulled me in for a hug and whispered in my ear… “I don’t want this to change anything. I still want you to go to Colorado if that’s your decision. Just know that I will be here to support you and will be waiting when you come back.” It was the sweetest and most amazing thing that anyone has ever said to me. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him, but we are planning on a wedding about a year after I get back so that we can get settled and enjoy the planning process together. I am without a doubt the luckiest girl in the world. He is my everything and the love of my life!
