How We Met
I had planned on meeting my best friend, Shannon, at the UGA vs Auburn SEC Championship tailgate on December 2, 2017, after a long week of traveling for work. I ended up showing up late to the tailgate and was ready to catch up to everyone. When I got there, I met up with everyone and Jacob, who was part of this friend group and who was also at the tailgate, instantly walked up to me and asked if I wanted to shotgun a beer with him and some of the guys. Which naturally, I said yes! After that, we departed ways for a few hours. Throughout the tailgate we would chat but nothing too serious. He got my number from Shannon and started texting me the next day asking if I wanted to go out with him.
I had a very busy work travel schedule for the remainder of the year so I actually ended up canceling on him for our first date! Shannon and I also work together and we had been planning our company’s holiday party for the year. And funny enough, her boyfriend was best friends with my now fiance, Jacob! I knew it was a long-shot but I asked Jacob if he wanted to be my date to the holiday party, especially since he knew people that were going. And to my surprise, he said yes! Luckily we were able to go on a first date before the holiday party but from that point on we’ve been together and we both knew we had found our soul mates in one another!
How They Asked
The week of our proposal, I had a rough week at work and Jacob wanted me to pamper myself and get my nails done and go get a massage – he was paying. But I was being stubborn and didn’t go get the massage or my nails done! Friends had been suggesting that maybe it was because he was going to propose but I told them all no way. Jacob is a hunter and went to his hunt camp that Friday and Saturday and told himself “if I get a deer, I know it’s meant to be” – and he got one! We went hiking Sunday morning with our dog, Goose, at Amicalola Falls in Georgia. When I was a kid, my family and I used to visit the falls and hike around every year so it has always been a very special and meaningful place to me. We decided to go the “harder” way up and we were soon both huffing and puffing up the trail. We both complained a little of being hot and it being harder than expected.
We finally got to a fork on the trail and had decided from here on out, we’re only going to be positive that we went the harder way! The trail was empty and we got to an overlook area of the mountains and it was beautiful! We were taking photos of the view as well as photos with Goose and as I thought he was taking my photo, I turned around and he was actually down on one knee asking me to marry him! I was in complete shock – I did not see this proposal coming at all on this day! After of course saying yes and having a few minutes alone together to jump for joy, people started filling up the trails again so we’re able to get our photos together in this special spot. I’m so thankful we had that time to ourselves, it made the moment so much more special. We got to the top of the trail were there is a waterfall and were able to call our families and tell them the spectacular news! We met December 2, 2017, and we were engaged less than a year later on November 18, 2018. Sometimes, when you know, you know! And I know he is the love of my life!
