How We Met
Harry and I met over 8 years ago when we were 13 and 14. We were both cast in our local production of High School Musical and our friendship began immediately. Harry always says that he fell in love with me the first time we met, however, I was totally hopeless and didn’t realise my love for him until the last year of school! I knew that I couldn’t live without him and that he was made to be in my life but because my parents had divorced, I was afraid to develop our relationship as I assumed I would end up just as they did. After much chasing and convincing (4 years to be exact… woops!), Harry eventually gave me the confidence to jump into this next scary stage of my life and I owe him everything for doing so. We have been together ever since and I so regret not committing to him earlier!
how they asked
We were Christmas shopping in the city and he received a phone call and excused himself to take it. When he came back, he informed me that he had just heard from a restaurant which he booked a long time ago (and conveniently forgot about) confirming our reservation for lunch tomorrow. I wasn’t suspecting anything at this point because he told me he wanted to celebrate our joined university graduation and enjoy fine dining experiences like we always do. The next day I was getting ready for this surprise lunch and I found my new dress laid out with a Tiffany & Co. bag on top. Inside were the pearl and white gold earrings I wanted to buy months ago but he had told me that he hated them so I didn’t purchase them haha. This threw me off the scent completely and I was thrilled to be spoilt by him. We arrived at Quay Restaurant (one of the most amazing restaurants in Sydney) and were taken to our table which was clearly the best view in the restaurant. We ordered the eight course degustation menu with premium matching wines and when I told Harry that this was costing way too much, he just said that this was going to be the only time that we would come to this restaurant and so we might as well make the most of it. Every course came with two glasses of matched wine and so when the pretend seventh course arrived with two glasses of champagne and a black box I was not suspecting as I thought the box was filled with petit fours! As soon as I saw diamond written on top of the box I burst into tears and didn’t bother to look at the ring as I knew it was perfect. Harry got on one knee and after saying ‘Absolutely!’ I cradled him in my arms for at least half an hour whilst sobbing uncontrollably. He told me there was more to come and I begged him to cancel it as I knew how much this had cost already. We left the restaurant and walked into the Park Hyatt. We arrived at the top floor and he opened the door to our balcony suite and inside he had set up a whole table filled with food, dessert and champagne, my makeup, skincare, a whole new wardrobe including pyjamas, dressing gowns and underwear and all the while our song was on repeat on the stereo – “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti & Spearhead. I burst into tears again while overlooking the most magnificent view of the Sydney Opera House. We spent the night cuddling and talking about everything that had happened and how his family was involved which I adored. The next morning he had organised breakfast for us and a couples massage in the hotel’s spa. We then went to lunch in Circular Quay with his family to celebrate. It was the most magnificent thing and I am so thrilled that I will fulfill my dream of becoming his wife.
I have followed how they asked forever and I am so thrilled that I was asked to submit my proposal! Thank you so much for everything xxx
