How We Met
We met at work.
How They Asked
We had been together for 6 1/2 years and I planned a big surprise birthday party for Jeff at our favorite wine cellar and bar, The Hostile Grape. I invited everyone we knew. On the way there, we took a selfie and I was so nervous he would guess my surprise that I didn’t realize he had posted the photo of us on social media with the words, “Good times, engaged!” Not the best choice of words. The moment we walked in everyone greeted us with, “Congratulations!” instead of “Happy Birthday!” Confused I thought, uh yah? I guess I did a great job planning this party? We were immediately separated and more congrats ensued. Everyone was insisting that we had just gotten engaged, but no? He hadn’t asked me, I think I would know if I was engaged! Five minutes later he gathers everyone up for a toast and says, “As I understand it, Mary Ann has put together a little birthday party for me, and the past few weeks I was planning on turning the tables… Apparently, I had put something out there on social media, not realizing the word association. I was going to do this a few hours in, but…” he gets down on one knee with a gorgeous ring in hand and proposes in front of everyone. Queue the ugly crying and an “Oh my God, yes!”
