Mary and Trevor
How We Met
Trevor and I met on July 27, 2013 in Roanoke, VA. We were both having drinks at a bar in downtown Roanoke with our friends. We met through a mutual friend and then happened to run into each other at a Pub Run the following Tuesday night. Our first date was at 1906 Ale House on Grandin Road, our second date was at the Microfestivus Beer Festival (where I was able to meet his friends) and our third date was at The Quarter. At the end of August I headed back to James Madison University, in which I entered my senior year. Trevor came to visit multiple times and I also frequently traveled back to Roanoke to see him. At the time Trevor was working at University Physical Therapy in Blacksburg, VA. We continued to date throughout my senior year of college and then as graduation approached I was offered a job in Washington, D.C. We made a very bold decision and moved together to a small apartment in Fairfax, VA. Today, we still live in Fairfax and have plans for our next big move in the coming year.
how they asked
November 15, 2015 was the best day of my life, as it was the day Trevor proposed. He woke me up early on Sunday morning with breakfast in bed and said he was taking me on a hike to Mary’s Rock. The hike was 6 miles long and when we got to the top we took beautiful pictures of the Shenandoah Valley. As we were coming down the mountain, about a mile from our car, Trevor said he wanted to take a picture of the both of us from an overlook. He said he was going to put his phone on a “timer” and he set it on the ground propped up by a rock. He came over and stood beside me and I counted 1,2,3, acting as if we are taking a photo. He then took my hand and pulled me in front of him. I started laughing right away because I didn’t know what he was doing. He then proceeded to say that he loved me with all of his heart and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He said that he wanted to take me here to give me a “piece of Mary’s Rock.” At this point I really thought he was joking with me, because of the nature of our relationship. On a side note, for the past 6 months every time I mentioned getting engaged Trevor would say he was “tacking on another month.” I should have been up to a few years by now, ha. He then continued to get down on one knee and pulled out a tiny red box. At that point all emotions came out, excitement and joy, expressed with giggles and tears. I was in complete shock. I had no idea that TODAYwould be the day and I had never felt as excited as I did in that moment. We were able to capture the entire proposal as well, as he was not taking a photo but a video. There has never been a day or a doubt in my mind that Trevor and I have an unbreakable bond and from that moment I always get to call him mine.
