How We Met:
Thomas and I met through mutual friends our freshman year at Georgia Southern University in the little college town of Statesboro, GA. After a year of hanging out in the same friend group, we started crushing on each other. With both of our friends telling each of us to go for it, we danced the night away at the Luke Bryan concert in our cowboy boots one October night.
It was history after that! The rest of our college years were full of date nights, time with friends, football games, hunting trips, and finding my other half. We got along perfectly and I fell in love more each day. We graduated together from college May 2014. It was bittersweet goodbye because I was headed to Atlanta and Thomas was headed to the University of Florida for his masters. Our relationship only strengthened the next year apart. Distance truly makes the heart grow fonder.
how they asked:
This summer, I headed to the white sandy beach of Anna Maria Island, Florida for our typical Fourth of July weekend with his family and friends. After traveling and barely having time to relax, he wanted to take me to dinner just the two of us. His family typically host a party at their house for the holiday and he said he wanted to spend some time together before the festivities and craziness started. On our way home from dinner, he took a right to go down to the beach at the last second instead of a left to go back to the house. I knew something was up but couldn’t believe it.
The light breeze and salty air made for a gorgeous evening to be on the beach. When walking down the board walk, you could see a sign on the beach. As I got closer, I could read, “Tracy, forever with you starts today. Now turn around.”
I stood there for a second to try to wrap my head around what was happening. When I turned around, Thomas was down on one knee and the love of my life asked me to marry him! While wiping away my tears, I said, “yes, of course!”
He had everything planned perfectly! We then took pictures with a photographer on the beach at sunset but the surprises weren’t over just yet… After getting back into the car and trying to cool down with the air conditioning, we headed back to the house. We decided to go tell his parents and take a breath before I called my parents and friends. When we walked into the door, tears fell from my eyes as I saw my family, my friends and more waiting for us to celebrate!! He had been planning for more than six months to have them all travel from out of state to be with us on our special day. His family had an engagement party set up and everything. I still can’t believe everyone lied to me but it was worth it! It was my fairytale proposal.
