tips for planning
- If you want to incorporate the cherry blossoms into your proposal photos, make sure to plan your trip around the National Cherry Blossom Festival toward the end of March into the middle of April.
- If you aren't sure where you'd like to propose in D.C., go to a souvenir shop and have her pick out the prettiest post card. These shops usually have photos of the monuments at day and night so if she picks a photo of the Lincoln Memorial at night, most of your planning is already done for you.
- Washington D.C. can get cold in the winter so make sure to dress warm since all of the monuments and many landmarks are all outside.
- D.C. traffic can be impacted by whether or not the president and other political figures are in town. Make sure to check the White House website in the morning to see if the president will be in town that day so you can plan accordingly.
- For the day you plan to propose work together to come up with the day's itinerary. She gets to pick a location or two and so do you. She won't think you're planning to propose since you let her also do a lot of the planning.
- If you're proposing at a high traffic tourist attraction, have your friends and family dress up in disguise and pretend to be tourists at the same place, that way they'll get to watch your proposal and it won't seem strange that they are taking pictures.
