How We Met
Ryan and I met on Hinge – however, it was quite serendipitous. I live in Pittsburgh and he is in Cleveland. I always kept my location settings on the lowest miles away from potential matches! I happened to be in Cleveland for work and we matched!
On our first date, Ryan came to Pittsburgh. He had a whole date planned- including a cooler full of snacks and rose to go kayaking on the river! Since then life has been full of adventure- lots of sunsets, buckets of oysters, always celebrating, soaking up the magic & becoming the best of friends.
How They Asked
Ryan totally surprised me. He proposed on October 1, my parents’ anniversary and the harvest moon. We both love the sky- sunrise, sunset, stars, the moon. While dating between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, we would often meet in the middle. This happened to be the town I lived in college. On one of our favorite dates, while meeting in the middle, we went to our favorite brewery, ate a bunch of French fries & then Ryan had a “surprise” for me. We drove to this field I used to love to take walk around and he had set up the back of his pickup truck with a huge inflatable mattress.
It was such a grand and ridiculous gesture. We stargazed the night away and forever treasured that memory. For our proposal, Ryan recreated this sweet memory on such a special day! We spent much of the summer watching sunsets lakeside in Ohio and after making a beautiful dinner ( which of course included homemade french fries!) we drove to the lake to moon gaze. God truly set up quite the show for Ryan’s big proposal. The sky was totally clear but a big storm was in the distance over the lake. We watched lightning dance on the water and then I realized Ryan had brought the mattress!
He set it up and we poured a glass of wine and enjoyed the moonlight. “Cue harvest moon by Neil Young” Ryan had popped off the bed of the truck to grab something quick. Next thing I knew the ground was lit in flickering candles in the shape of a heart with a cross ( to symbolize our faith) right in the center. Ryan is always so romantic, I didn’t realize what was happening at first! I could tell he was emotional and before I knew it he was sharing his heart and asking me to be his wife! We popped champagne and enjoyed the beautiful evening. We spent the weekend sharing with our family and friends and enjoying a beautiful meal, along with some fun fall festivities! Cheers!
