How We Met

My fiancé (eeek!) Nick and I started dating as sophomores in high school, almost 8 years prior to our proposal. And all those years, we knew that we were going to get married when we were old enough. So many people have asked me if I knew he was going to propose when he did. We were waiting to live on our own and have jobs, both of which we accomplished, so I knew a proposal was right around the corner.

It was the right time to get engaged, and now we just needed the right moment. When Nick suggested a trip to New York City, I started to get suspicious about a proposal. But if you’ve been dating someone as long as I have, you learn to stop getting your hopes up. LOL. So did I know it was coming? Maybe yes, maybe no. Did it change the moment at all? No, of course not! Now moving onto how he asked…

How They Asked

During our trip to NYC, we walked to Washington Square Park to “meet up with Nick’s cousin.” We stepped to the fountain and waited patiently… until a pianist started playing and singing the death of a Bachelor by Panic! at the Disco. I was quietly singing the song to myself inadvertently, not even realizing this was my all-time favorite song. Then Nick says “Wait is this your favorite song?” And I was just like “OMG Yes!” like an idiot. That’s when he starts proposing.

He got down on one knee and said something along the lines of “I want to spend the rest of my life with you..will you marry me?” Or so we think… we both sort of blacked out. LOL. I started balling crying in shock. Before I said yes (if I ever did), I was blabbering nonsense like “are you proposing? Omg, I love this song! Is this for me??” I didn’t even know how to act.

The tears were just falling, and I was shaking. We were both caught up in our emotions, and we really enjoyed each other at that moment. Thank god someone was there to take photos and a kind stranger even videoed it! I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, not just at that moment but every day.
