how we met
We met working on a 105-year-old wooden schooner that sails in the Puget Sound and San Juan Islands, teaching students about marine science.
how they asked
While Chris was working in Alaska for summer 2017, I (Marisa) knitted him a beer coozy that said ‘Will you marry me?’ At the end of that summer, I flew to Fairbanks, AK so we could spend the next 1.5 months road tripping back to Seattle together, backpacking and staying in our van. While camping at a beach on North Vancouver Island, I asked if Chris wanted another beer, and handed him one in the coozy. While we celebrated our engagement on that trip, it wasn’t until we saw my parents in December that Chris got my Grandmother’s engagement ring. He held on to it so he could give it to me at a special time. While looking at wedding venues, he proposed back to me, giving me a beer coozy that said ‘yes’ and giving me the ring. That was at Deception Pass, where we are indeed getting married.
