How We Met
Matthew and I met over 10 years ago. My best friend had a Halloween party and invited him since she had a crush on him at the time. After that party I decided to add him on Facebook. Quite a few years later, my senior year in college I was in my bedroom scrolling through the news feed and I saw his name. I decided to message him on Facebook. He’s in the Air Force and was deployed at the time. Talking was very difficult since there was a 12 hour difference. We talked for about eight months, then he came home for a month leave before he was assigned to Florida. We really hit it off and spent a lot of time together. He then moved to Florida, and we separated ways. He always said, “If it’s mean to be it will be. It’s not good timing now, but it may be in the future.” We didn’t talk for three years, but we still were friends on Facebook. Relationships came and went for the both of us during that time.
Then October 2016, he reached out to me on Snapchat and said he was going to be in the area (New Hampshire) for a wedding and had some free time. He wanted to see me. I hesitated due to how we left things back in 2013, but I decided to meet him for a drink at his favorite bar. We hugged at the end of the night and he asked if I would go to Florida to see him in December. I didn’t give him an answer that night. In the end, I decided to go to Florida. So we dated long distance for 1.5 years. I would go to Florida, he would come to New Hampshire, and we had a really great system. Then he decided to go to Texas to get his degree, and then become a pilot in the Air Force. His sister got married in October 2017, and that weekend he asked me to move to Texas to be with him. That’s when I knew this was the real deal. I moved to Texas June 2018, and we are still living here today. We took our yearly trip to New Hampshire back in August, and that’s where he popped the question!
How They Asked
We went to New Hampshire for our yearly trip to visit with our family and friends. We had a BBQ a few days before we left to see everyone we weren’t going to spend quality time with. A few hours into the BBQ, Matt pulled me up near the door to thank everyone for coming. I said a few words after Matt said a few sentences. That’s when he got down on one knee. He started to cry while saying my name and wasn’t even able to say, will you marry me. I started to ugly cry haha, and felt like it was a dream. I’m still on cloud 9.
