How We Met
Jorge and I met on a dating app a few years ago. We had talked for a few weeks, but I had no intention of meeting him. He was tall, had good looks and a full beard, and tattooed sleeves on both arms. I was convinced he was going to be a headache. So I continuously declined his invitations when he’d ask me to meet. On the day Jorge and I finally met in person in January 2016, I originally had plans to go on a date with another guy— the “safer” option, or so I thought. Boy, was I wrong! The other guy totally ghosted me (thankfully!!!). I was kinda bummed and fully prepared to stay in on that chilly Saturday night when Jorge asked me to meet him at a local Starbucks.
I initially said no— I wasn’t in the mood and my hair was dirty. I told my mom what was happening and she encouraged me to go. But I was so over the dating scene! After some convincing from my mom, I decided to go. I doused my hair in dry shampoo, put on barely any makeup, and put on a sweater, leggings, and Converse. Anyone who knows me knows this is NOT me!
I am ALWAYS put together. But I was convinced nothing would come out of this coffee date, so I put in zero effort. As soon as I arrived, I was proven sooo wrong and immediately felt the fireworks with Jorge! Not only did I think he was handsome and so cute, but he was also so goofy and hilarious. Not to mention, he was such a gentleman to me (a very rare find in the Miami dating scene). We had amazing chemistry, talked about everything, and shared so many laughs. I had never felt so comfortable or at home with anyone in my life. As corny as it sounds, I felt so lucky that I had finally found my best friend!💕
How They Asked
Jorge is a first responder, and after working tirelessly for months on the frontlines against coronavirus, he was desperate to get out of town. I had been working from home for months and was totally up for a little vacay. Jorge planned a romantic weekend at one of my favorite resorts, the JW Marriott in Marco Island, Florida. He surprised me with an incredible suite at the new adults-only section of the resort called Paradise. And paradise it was!!!
It had a wrap-around balcony with an amazing view of the beach and the sunset. The room also came with access to an adult-only pool and section of the beach. On the second night of our stay, Jorge had planned a romantic dinner at a really nice local steakhouse and told me to get dressed up a little earlier so we could take pictures with the sunset. None of this seemed odd being that Jorge always likes to treat us to a really nice dinner on our vacations and I love taking pictures.
Early on the morning of the proposal, while at breakfast, the weather outside was awful! Poor Jorge looked so bummed out. I later realized that the poor guy must have thought his plans were ruined! Luckily, as the day went on, the weather cleared up and the sun was shining bright! Later that afternoon, I was getting ready for pictures and dinner, he closed off the curtains so I couldn’t see outside. He prepared a beautiful set up on the balcony where he would later propose to me. When I stepped out of the shower, he was waiting for me in the living room and I noticed that he was sweating quite a bit.
I asked him if he was ok, and he just brushed it off and said that it was just really hot inside the room (but it was freezing!). I later learned he had been outside getting everything set up and that was why he was sweating so much. Once I was done, we walked out on to the balcony, and he grabbed my hand and said “You know I love you, right?” That’s when I knew he was going to propose. As we turned the corner of the balcony, I saw his gorgeous setup and he dropped down to one knee. Unfortunately, I got so happy and excited, that I’m not entirely sure what he said, but I know he told me that he loved me so much and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. Then, he asked me to marry him, and I, of course, said YES!💍💕
