How We Met
Jake and I met on Tinder in July 2017. Our first date was kind of a mess. I met him outside a restaurant, but he hadn’t made reservations not realizing how popular it was, so we walked over to the bar next door and sat outside in the Oklahoma July heat. There was an instant connection though as we drank and talked all night as we bar hopped.
At the last bar, a hotel rooftop bar, we were waiting for the elevator to go down, and we kissed. We argue who kissed who first, but I’m pretty sure he kissed me first. We proceeded to make-out in a parking lot before getting some food so we could drive home. Ever since we’ve been pretty inseparable.
How They Asked
I was in my last year of law school and he had just graduated that May after several years in the National Guard, so we faced a lot of life decision obstacles, but we made it. We bought a house together in March, and he told me from the beginning he wanted to host a graduation party for me during graduation weekend so our families could meet and we could celebrate. We spent the spring working on the house, getting a puppy named Molly, and starting to build a life together. Graduation rolled around and after a full day of events, we were finally outside relaxing with friends and family.
He disappeared inside for a minute and comes back out and proposes a toast to me for completing school finally and forces me to stand up. Next thing I know he’s down on one knee with a ring in his hand asking me to spend forever with him. I was so surprised as we had talked about waiting till after I took the bar exam in July, but I was also so excited! The rest of the night is a complete blur other than us finally kicking people out of our house at about 2:00 am. The next day was Mother’s Day, and my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary, so it was another crazy day for us. Monday was his birthday and we finally had a quiet day to celebrate just the two of us. Its quiet days like that I’m most looking forward to in the future.
