How We Met

My fiance’s mother is a romance novelist and she best describes our love story as ‘Written in the Stars’. It all started in 8th grade when a mutual friend introduced me to Tim in the food court of our local mall. He went in for a big bite of his Arby’s sandwich and missed his mouth. I giggled and may have even seen an aura of heart bubbles around him, but was too shy to talk to him. We ended up going to the same high school, but ran in different crowds. I was a bookworm and dancer, and he was a bit of a class clown and the lead singer of a punk rock band. As fate would have it, however, we ended up at the same party our senior year and shared our first kiss. We then dated on and off for the first three years of college. Our relationship was very passionate and we loved each other, but both of us had a lot of growing up to do. We broke up and didn’t see each other for six years. Then Tim called me out of the blue and told me that no other girl would ever live up to me and that he thought we should see each other. It was meant to be.

how they asked

We had been dating again for four years this past August when we decided to take our first overseas travel adventure to Rome, Italy. On our second night, Tim led me up to Gianicolo Hill, a small park overlooking all of Italy, at sunset. As we looked out over the beautiful city with the sun fading a cotton-candy pink over the horizon, Tim put his arms around me from behind and I could feel his heart beating through his chest. He said that he had never seen something so beautiful as me in the sunset on this night and that he wanted this moment to last forever, just like he wanted to be with me forever.

He pulled out the ring and we both started crying. I was sobbing so hard I couldn’t even form a ‘yes’. I couldn’t believe that the man I had waited so long for finally had asked me to marry him. I kept asking him if ‘he was sure’, and he said that he’s always been sure, but was waiting for the perfect moment that I deserved.

There was no family there to capture the moment, but in a surprise turn of events, a girl from England walked up to us and asked if we had just gotten engaged. We said yes, and she said she was a photographer and had just happened to capture a few moments of us after the moment. I was still in shock, and Tim had to sit to steady himself! It was, hands down, the best moment of my life, and I’ll remember that feeling forever. Our love story is truly written in the stars.
