How We Met
Last December I had some friends who threw 12 bars of Christmas bar crawl. After a long week as a pediatric nurse, I was hesitant to go, just wanting to stay home and be cozy. Eventually, I rallied and got all dressed up in all the Christmas garb I could find in my closet, including a mistletoe headband I had no idea I owned! We went bar to bar, and at our third stop, I decided to go get some pizza from the small stand at the back of the bar. As I was walking back from getting a slice, a guy stopped me and pointed out to his friend I was wearing a mistletoe headband. He told his friend (who happened to be Jon) he should kiss me, and after Jon and I looked at each other and shrugged, he kissed me and I went on my way back to my friends. Later that evening we ran into their group again, and I put my number on Jon’s phone. We went on our first date a week later, and the rest is history!
How They Asked
One year from our first date, Jon and I decided to go to dinner at the Saint Paul Hotel in downtown Saint Paul. We planned to stay the night and celebrate being together as we had been long distances for 6 months due to Jons job. After a wonderful dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, we went for a walk in Rice Park, which is lit up with Christmas lights this time of year. When we reached the largest tree in the park, a large pine with blue lights, I saw there were candles in the snow leading to the tree.
Jon led me there and got down on one knee, asking me to be his wife. It was the most magical moment of my life, with a man I loved more than I knew possible. I then realized, our friend Tiffany was hiding in the bushes, capturing the whole thing.
After the proposal, we made our way back to the hotel, where much to my surprise, my sister had gathered all of our family and friends to be there. They all stood cheering in the lobby as we walked in. I have never been so overwhelmed with love in my life, and we were able to celebrate with everyone all night!
