How We Met
Our love story began with four simple words, “Are you from Texas?”. On Friday, June 15th, 2018, I was out at a bar in downtown Chicago celebrating a friend’s birthday. Around midnight, I was getting ready to say my goodbyes to my friends as I had a Pilates class at 7 am the next morning and didn’t want to be out too late. Right as I was about to leave, a tall, handsome man came up to me and said “Are you from Texas?”. Although the line was a bit out of the box, I had just visited Austin, Texas a few months prior so it turned out to be the perfect ice breaker as I told him all about my recent trip to the lone star state. This man turned out to be my future husband, Brett! He later told me that he didn’t know what to say at the moment so he came up with the line based on my outfit which was a burnt orange colored romper.
We ended up talking and laughing together the rest of the night and before I knew it, my friends were long gone and the lights were turning back on in the bar. Brett asked for my number before I hopped in my Uber home and I still managed to make it to my workout class a few hours later! Brett sent me a sweet text two days later and we made plans to go out for dinner the following Wednesday. We’ve pretty much been together every day since our first date and I can’t imagine my life without him. He is the biggest blessing that has come into my life and I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to call him my husband soon!
How They Asked
Brett popped the question during a family photo shoot. It had been 15 years since my family and I had taken professional photos and with a new baby in the family (my sister-in-law had a baby in September of 2020), we wanted nice photos to remember this special time. I had booked a photographer and set up the shoot at a beautiful park near my brother’s house in downtown Chicago. After taking several group shots, Brett and I took some pictures of just the two of us together. Little did I know, he had contacted the photographer about a week prior and told her his plan.
After the first few snaps, Brett looked and me and said “I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you”. Then my mom handed him the ring and he got down on his knee and proposed! I was completely shocked as I had no clue it would happen at the photoshoot. I of course said yes and we took more photos together before heading to a nearby restaurant where more family was waiting to surprise me! It was absolutely perfect and I’m just so happy that I get to spend the rest of my life with the guy who makes me the happiest girl in the world!
Fun fact: When Brett asked my parents for their blessing to the proposal, he took them to the restaurant where we had our first date and even stopped by the day before to make sure they sat in the same booth we shared on our first date.
