How We Met
Ashton and I met in high school in our hometown in 2007. We did NOT hit it off at first! I was dating one of his friends and we both would share our disgust for one another to him. A funny story we like to tell is one night I was with my boyfriend at the time and we were going to meet Ashton and some others at Denny’s. Ashton drove by in his top camera and told me to roll the window down…this dude threw a handful of sour skittles at my FACE and sped off to Denny’s. IT HURT.
I was so mad and my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to skip Denny’s…I said HELL NO. WE got there and got seated. I grabbed a peppermint…crushed it up, threw it in his face and walked away. As time went on we warmed up to each other a bit. My boyfriend and I at the time had a bad breakup and I didn’t talk to him or his friends for about a year. In June 2010, right after I graduated high school, Ashton and I came into contact with each other again.
We started hanging out and July 4th we shared our first kiss…on July 7, 2010, we were sitting on my bed and he says, “So are you like my girlfriend now?” and the rest his history. As we started to get to know each other more I was telling Ashton about the time I was sitting on the curb at my friend’s house and this old Mustang drove by and egged us…Ashton looked at me in disbelief and said, “Bab, that was me and my friends, we even got caught that night…” I guess it was always meant to be! We have moved from city to city and different states and back where love is still going strong. In July, we went to Oregon to celebrate our 10 year anniversary!
How They Asked
We drove from our home in Northern California to Oregon for a coastal road trip to celebrate 10 years together. We started in Portland, drove up to Astoria and started working our way down the coast. On day three, Ashton really wanted to see some waterfalls (we LOVE waterfalls). We went to the first one and it was beautiful, we loved it, we went to the second one and Ash said it was a sad excuse for a waterfall…trees had fallen and blocked you from getting closer to the waterfall….the third waterfall was so cool and you had to go over a suspension bridge to get to it (and Ash is not keen on heights).
Day four we went to ride ATV’s in the sand dunes, it was so fun and I nearly flipped my ATV but saved it! Later that day we stopped at one of the many beaches…Ashton had us walking forever on that beach…and it was the softest sand so it was so hard to walk on! My foot sunk far into the sand and Ashton got down to bury my feet. All of a sudden I hear, “Hey babe.” I look down and Ashton is on one knee with a ring in his hand and asked me to marry him.
I was so surprised that I kept asking if he was for real and he kept saying, “Yes, the ring is right here!” It was so sweet and special and the perfect proposal for us. The funny this is Ashton kept trying to propose the day before at the waterfalls! The first one he couldn’t get it out of his bag without me seeing, the second one he had in his pocket the whole time but didn’t like the waterfall and the third one he was too nervous because of the bridge!
