How We Met
Sietze and I met 6 years ago at a typical student bar in the Netherlands but nothing in our relationship was ever typical again. I began dating one of his best friends and then he realized that actually Sietze and I would be a better match. We started dating and the rest is history but actually not really. We did about 4 years of long distance from Uganda to China, to Los Angeles, to Brussels to finally living together in the Netherlands. We’ve been through it all and it’s been completely worth it!
how they asked
He had completely surprised me! He had been planning the September proposal since March but something terrible happened in August. My father passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I was devastated but Sietze was the greatest support. He really helped me get through the most difficult time in my life and I knew then he is my everything.
So he asked one of my friends, Claudia, to ask to get together on a Saturday for high tea. When we met up, we ended up at a hair salon and I had no idea what was going on. She told me to check my phone and more specifically instagram. I checked the app and I saw an account tagging me in pictures and I found it so weird. I checked the account @traveltheworld.withme and saw pictures of my friends with a letter. And the account name was inside story between Sietze and I. I got very excited. At the hair salon, I was allowed to get my hair and make up done. He had picked out a dress with shoes that I had to wear. When I was finished all the pictures/clues were posted told me to go where it all began so the bar. I went there and he wasn’t there but I saw polaroids of him pointing me in the direction i needed to go. He posted those all over the city and I finally ended up under the Dom tower in Utrecht where we had our first kiss. He was there, his friend Sven was filming us and his friend Kim was taking pictures.
He had the most beautiful speech and then got down one knee and I was over the moon. I couldn’t believe I was saying yes to the man I was going to spend the rest of my life and thought how damn lucky I was to have found him.
