Mallory and Nathan

how they asked: After 3 years of dating and 12 years of best-friendship, Nate told me he wanted to drive down to Galveston Island the weekend before Christmas. He REALLY wanted some banana bread foster. And he wanted to look at Christmas lights. So we made sure all our Christmas gifts were bought and the house was cleaned the weekend before, and on Saturday 12/20 we drove down the hour and a half to Galveston Island for the evening.

We went to an amazing seafood restaurant called Gaido’s and then we headed down to Moody Gardens. We took a look at the lights. And since we had an hour to kill before our 8:30 tickets to the Spongebob Squarepants ice sculpture display, we decided to go into one of the pyramids. It was warm and Santa was in there. So we decided why not? Let’s take a picture. He made it seem like my idea. He went to the bathroom and wrote on a post-it note”I am going to propose, please take a video. Shhh….. :)”. We got in line and, with my back turned, he slipped the note and his phone to the woman in line behind us.

Then it was our turn to take a picture with Santa. He asked me what I wanted for Christmas. Not wanting to be pushy, I said “I don’t know…a car?” (what a dumb answer…).

Then he pulled a ring box out of his pocket, dropped down on one knee, and said he wanted a fiancee for Christmas. He welled up a little and told me I was his best friend and that he couldn’t imagine spending the rest of his life without me. Then he asked me to marry him.

After I stopped shaking, of course, I said yes. The Santa photographer captured an amazing shot. And the woman in line caught it all on video, although you can’t hear it.
