How We Met
Evan and I met when we were in high school. I was a Junior and he was a Senior! I had a complete crush on him and figured he didn’t even know my name. We passed each other every afternoon while I was making my way to cheer practice and he was with his baseball team walking to the fields. Low and behold I was on his radar because every day he (or his best friend) would sneeze as loud as they could to see if I’d say bless you. A few days went by and I figured out that either they had really bad allergies or they were just trying to get my attention.
Sure enough, one day as we were walking past each other, Evan’s best friend tripped him and he bumped right into me. We both just started laughing, and I’m sure with cherry red faces until we could get out a “hello.” The rest is pretty much history. We talked for a few weeks over the phone and had a very classy first date at none other than Sonic Drive-Thru. We started dating just shy of two months after our initial conversation and have been together for almost five years. Currently, I am a Junior in College and Evan is a Senior about to graduate! We are getting married on May 29, 2021!
How They Asked
Evan is pretty terrible at surprises, but I have to give him credit where it’s due because I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS COMING. He used a bit of reverse psychology on me all week leading up to our Valentine’s Day proposal. He would tell me “aren’t you so excited to get engaged to me on Friday” and I just laughed and made a mental note that out of every possible day he could propose it would definitely NOT be on Valentines’ Day. We both went to work that morning, and when I got home there were flowers on the counter and a sweet card. We made plans to go eat, but he wouldn’t tell me where. After I opened the card and we discussed our days I began getting ready for dinner. When we got in the car, he pulled out a blindfold and told me to put it on. I laughed and refused. He then begged me and told me I’d never been to this restaurant, and that he wanted it to be a surprise. We arrived at the “restaurant” which was really Arsenal Park in Downtown Baton Rouge.
I felt like we had been walking for a while and was teasing him that he had to pick the farthest parking spot and that I better not get run over blindfolded in the parking lot. As he began letting go of my hand I tripped on a candle laying on the ground (so I peaked, obviously) and to my surprise, there were also rose petals. Before I took off my blindfold I knew either Evan was proposing or we were eating dinner on a concrete slab and I was going to kill him. After a technical malfunction with the blindfold, I opened my eyes and he was down on one knee on the verge of tears.
Both of our hearts were racing a million miles a second and I have no clue what he said but I do know I said YES (I think)! We snapped a few pictures with an amazing photographer he found on Instagram, Vanessa Rivas! We had so much fun doing a photoshoot while we were still at the moment. We then got back in the car to go have dinner. I was under the impression it would just be the two of us, but when we arrived both of our entire families were there waiting for us with a bottle of champagne! It truly was the most magical night and it will be so fun to re-live it every Valentine’s Day.
