How We Met

Ryan and my brother had played baseball together for years. On the first day of our junior year of high school, I sat right behind Ryan in history class. He turned around and said “I didn’t know you were Jensen’s sister.” From the next few months we became really good friends and always hung out in a group. On the night before my birthday he had asked me to go see the new Wizard of Oz movie. I was so excited but nervous because I noticed he didn’t invite any of our other friends. He picked me up and I was so nervous the whole night that he was going to hold my hand. (He didn’t.) But many more dates followed this one. One year later he gave me the most beautiful promise ring and promised to love me and pursue me for the rest of his life.

how they asked

He knows that my most favorite place in the world is the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. October 1st was the first day of the 2016 fiesta. My family goes every year so we all piled in the car in the early morning to get there right when the balloons were going up. It really is the most beautiful sight to see so naturally I was taking a video for my snapchat story. The next thing I knew I saw all of our friends walking towards me in a uniformed line. All of our friends formed a half circle around us and one by one they each shared a small piece of the timeline of Ryan and I’s relationship. After each person shared the memory, they handed me a rose. The last person said “Summer 2016, when Ryan asked your dad’s permission to marry you.” Finally, Ryan said, “October 1st, 2016, the day I asked you to marry me.”

He then got on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most special thing and more than I could ever ask for.
