How We Met
When we met, I was actually on a date with one of his good friends. (Oops) We spoke a little but it was all small talk. A few weeks later, after things has fizzled out with said friend of his, I was swiping my merry way through tinder and there he was! I swiped right (obviously) and I got a message from him almost immediately. “This is the greatest day of my life!” He said, and I replied something similar. We talked a little bit but things got busy and the conversation fizzled. We both deleted our Tinders for a time, and as soon as I got my tinder back, we matched again! I messaged him and said “Can the second time be the charm, or are we going to have to do this again?” And he replied “I’ll delete my tinder, get it back, and swipe until I find you again if that’s what it takes!” He then asked me for my number and the rest was history! I was immediately smitten.

Ah! I can hardly even tell the story without crying. But I will try my best. We were rock climbing at our most favorite place (Elevation Rock Gym). It’s something we do all the time, so it was a very inconspicuous activity and I was not expecting a proposal AT ALL. We got there around 9:30. The gym closes at 11, so at about 10:55 I was tired and getting ready to head home. Luis insisted that I just climb one more route. I agreed, and up the route I went. When I got to the top, Luis yells “Are you at the top?” Way louder than we would have needed to for just me to hear him. As soon as he yelled that, all of the lights in the whole place shut off. My initial thoughts were that the power went out, but then I started to see people bustling around on the ground below me while Luis held me at the top of the climb. I immediately started crying/laughing (craughing, if you will). I could not believe this was happening. Our friends hurried and hung up 100+ feet of twinkly Christmas lights and scattered red and white fresh rose petals all over the ground. First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes (our song) was playing over the sound system in the gym. As soon as the lights turned on, I felt like my heart was going to explode. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and it was all for me. Like, what?? Luis lowered me down and got down on one knee in the middle of the lights and rose petals and asked me to be his wife in front of all of our closest friends at one of the places where we’ve spent so much time together doing what we love.
I could not get the word yes out of my mouth fast enough. I could have hugged him and kissed his whole face off forever, but unfortunately the gym really was closing and we really did have to go home soon. I still get so excited every time someone asks me to tell them about our engagement story because it is the most amazing thing I have ever been a part of. I love you, Luis!
