Madison and Karl
how they asked
After 3 months apart due to an officer training camp with the US Navy this past summer, I flew out to see Karl (my boyfriend at the time) in Newport Rhode Island with his parents. Up to this point he had only had contact through writing letter and an occasional phone call here and there, he kept mentioning how Rhode Island was about to be a VERY special place for us, little did I know what he had planned. The day we arrived I only got to see him when we were reunited for about an hour or two, the next day we were going to watch him graduate from the officer training school on September 9th, 2016.
After a long anxious night, graduation day came. His parents and I went and picked up him and his twin brother Evan from their apartment on the base, and drove out to the peer on the naval base. We parked, and started walking down the long peer which overlooked the ocean and a large bridge over the bay. As we were walking out there he kept making comments about how many people were out there, and how he was getting super hot, and mentioned that we should walk slower (probably to gather his thoughts cause he was nervous, what a cutie), I still didn’t think anything of it.
As we reached the end of the peer, his family and I all stood there and took in the view, he asked if I wanted to take a picture (offff courssssse) and this is where it all started.
We stood at the edge of the peer and stared taking normal smiling pictures, then he turned to face me, and in my head I was just thinking about how cute this picture was going to be (Goll I’m such a girl ha). At that point he started pouring out to me the sweetest words I which put the biggest smile on my face and gave me some major butterflies. That is when he got down on one knee and asked me to MARRY HIM.
I was too excited and overcome with happiness to let him put the ring on my finger… I just grabbed the ring and hugged him as fast as I could.
Sooner than later I let him put the ring on, I hugged him, and kissed him much much more before we had to walk back for the graduation ceremony. He purposes with a symbolic naval ring (which was beautiful) so that we could go pick out the ring of my dreams together when we got back to Utah (where we are both from). I will never forget this day, and here marks the beginning of eternity with my person.
