Our first photo together- 16 and 14 years old!
How We Met
Jake and I met in August 2010 at our high school, I was 14 and he was 15. In the very first conversation that we had I told him that he had a cool last name, and I had no idea that one day it would be mine too! From the moment we met I knew that there was something very different about him, something that quickly made me start falling for him. On October 24th that cute boy from school had planned to come to my house for the very first time. I was so nervous, and I still to this day remember spending hours choosing the perfect outfit. When he showed up at my door that night I had no idea that this would be the start of countless nights spent in each other’s company.
When his mom pulled into the driveway to pick him up we headed to my front door to say our goodbyes, and in that moment he kissed me for the very first time… I was easily the happiest girl in the world.
A few months of flirting at the football and basketball games, hundreds of text messages, and some phone calls later, I started to wonder if he was ever going to ask me to be his girlfriend. On January 18th, 2011 we were messaging each other on Facebook, and he said “we’re basically dating, right?”, to which I responded “yes!”, hoping that the question was coming. Immediately after, a notification popped up that said “Relationship request from Jake Muncy”. I quickly clicked accept, and the rest is history!
how they asked
After five and a half years of dating, marriage had definitely been a topic of conversation occasionally, but the day he decided to propose completely caught me off guard. The night before we had planned to go somewhere and play around with my new camera, which we had been doing a lot recently, and then go to dinner. By the time he got off work and to my house, our original plan had changed because the park we wanted to go to had closed, so I decided to leave my camera at home thinking we would just go out to eat. We headed one way, and then he decided to turn around because the other direction, that happened to pass by my house again, “had better food options”. When we got to my street he pulled back in and told me to run in and grab my camera so we could at least get a few shots of his car.
After I got the camera we headed down a back road where he said he wanted to park the car for pictures. When we pulled up in front of a big open field he said “how about here?”. I was a little confused as to why he felt he needed photos of his car, but I figured it was a guy thing and grabbed my camera and got out. After all, the weather was perfect, and in front of this big open field I thought it would look nice. When I started walking to the back of the car where he had the trunk open, I thought for sure I would see him with his rag and wheel shine, getting ready to polish them before I started to take the photos… Instead, when I came around the car there he was, on one knee smiling at me, with a ring box in his hand. I was completely shocked, and when I heard him say my full name I felt the tears start streaming down my face. I said yes, and he presented me with the absolute ring of my dreams.
After we both cried, laughed, and danced with excitement, I took some pictures of the real reason that we were there. He then told me that he hoped I wasn’t set on going out to eat, because he had his dad get his whole family over at his house for dinner so that we could go surprise them! On the way there he told me the story of how they asked my dad for permission the night before, and how our dads were the only two people to know because he knew I wanted to be able to surprise everyone else. We got the best reaction from both of our families that night, and it’s safe to say that August 12th, 2016 was the best day of my life so far.
