Madeline and Cody
How We Met
Cody and I met on 6.12.16 in Evansville, Indiana. On our first date, Cody drove to a sushi restaurant in downtown Evansville and when we got there the restaurant was closed. I didn’t want him to feel awkward about the restaurant being closed so I quickly suggested Kanpai, another sushi restaurant, which just so happens to be my favorite restaurant in Evansville. Only a few days after, we had our second date at his favorite restaurant, The Tin Fish in Newburgh, Indiana, and went to the Holiday Drive-In, a decades-old drive-in movie theater located in Rockport, Indiana. After our second date, we spent every day together and we have had many sushi and movie nights ever since!
how they asked
Cody surprised me with a secret weekend getaway he had planned for our two-year anniversary. We left Friday evening and I had no idea where we were going. We drove for hours through Arkansas and as I looked out the window at all the rice fields and farmland, I really began to question where exactly he was taking me. After a lengthy 4.5-hour drive we finally arrived at The Lodge at Mount Magazine in Mount Magazine State Park. This state park is known as the highest point in Arkansas and the views were incredible! Unlike anything, I had ever seen in my life. I have always loved mountains so this felt really special to me. We spent Friday night taking in the breathtaking views from different spots around the lodge and watched the sunset from the balcony of our suite. Saturday we went on a hike, hung out at the pool and went to dinner that evening. Once we got back to our room, Cody surprised me with a book he had made full of pictures with dates, captions and some of his personal thoughts. The book is a timeline over the past two years full of memories we have shared together. As we sat on the balcony overlooking the mountains, he went through the book and talked about every picture and memory, times we have spent with our families and some of his thoughts connected to these memories. One of my favorites read, “I remember thinking you looked exceptionally beautiful that day in that dress.” He named the book Chapter 1 and when he turned it over, there on the back of the book was our date, 6/16/18, the date he had planned to propose to me! He got down on one knee and of course, I said yes! & I can’t wait for the many chapters to follow…
This moment was so incredibly perfect, so much more than I imagined it to be. I had been waiting for this perfect moment my entire life. I dreamed of this moment, this perfect day. Ever since I was a little girl I had dreamed of meeting this perfect man that I would create a life with, share a family with. This is the love that I have always believed in and I knew after only two months that I had found this perfect love with Cody. He told me that he also knew after only a very short time that we would always be together.
The next morning I watched the sunrise over the mountains and wrote about how he had proposed to me and how I was feeling, trying to capture this special moment in our lives forever. As I watched this big, beautiful, colorful sunrise I thought about how he chose such an incredibly beautiful place to ask me to marry him. He always does this-chooses the very best for me. I found out after the proposal that he had asked both of my parents individually, as well as my younger brother if he could ask me to marry him. This was so incredibly meaningful to me that he not only made it a priority to receive my parents’ blessing but to include my brother also. I love this man with my whole heart and couldn’t ask for a better husband and partner to spend my life with.
