How We Met
Salvador and I met in high school when we were just 16 years old. We were both taking fifth-period chemistry and I happened to sit right in front of him. One day when we were both running late to class, he told me that he needed to ask me something and to wait for him after the first period. After the first period, he asked me if I wanted to go to the movies with him that weekend. I declined because I had a volleyball tournament that weekend and we left it like that. We would talk here and there because we both had the same class but I was never interested in him.
During one of my volleyball games, Salvador decided to take his whole baseball team to the game to cheer me on. He got them to shout, “MVP!!” every time I would serve the ball. I was so embarrassed yet flattered that he really did that just to get my attention. After that game, he asked for my number. I said No because I was not interested in him. He continued to go to every home game until I gave him a chance. I eventually gave him my number because I knew he was not going to give up this easy. Salvador and I have been together for 9 years and I couldn’t be happier. Who knew taking that chemistry class I would find the love of my life!!
How They Asked
Salvador and I had just celebrated our 9 year anniversary and had dinner at Cheesecake Factory. We normally celebrate the whole weekend but that weekend was thanksgiving and my sisters were flying down from NorCal. He thought we should reschedule to hang out with them plus he had his uncle’s surprise party that Saturday, so I thought.. Saturday came around and Salvador told me to be there at 7:30 pm and to ride with my sisters because he was helping his aunt set everything up. This was not unusual because Salvador and I normally help out with family parties but that day I wanted to just hang out with my sisters so I stayed back. Little did I know, my whole family was setting up everything!! When I arrived at his uncle’s house, almost everyone was there.
I thought we were running late because normally everyone is not on time. As I was walking to the tent, one of my sister’s opened it and I just saw him standing in a big heart surrounded by candles! I thought to myself, “OMG IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING!”. Salvador got on one knee and asked me to FINALLY marry him! Oh, man, have I been waiting for this day to come! Once I said yes, Salvador had the Mariachi band play one of my favorite songs he dedicated to me years before. This day was so magical because I was surrounded by all my closest friends and my family and the proposal was just AMAZING! Salvador had so much help from all my sisters and brothers-in-law along with his parents! They were able to pull off this proposal in 24 hours! I am beyond blessed with the best family and I cannot wait to be Mrs. Ruiz!!
