Mackenzie and Michael

How We Met

In 2016, I was going to a baseball game with my younger sister in a city fairly far out. I turned on my dating app, and it was in the range of the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever laid eyes upon. Instinctively, I swiped right, but not before texting my friends, a screenshot of her profile and begging the universe for her to swipe right on me too.

Me: “Our first date, he drove 45 minutes To pick me up on a date in his car lacking a/c that week in texas summer, and he was making eye contact with bashful me the whole time over lunch. I kept looking away from his bright blue eyes, but he knew that I wasn’t disinterested, and pursued me for a second date (and third, and fourth, and fifth… etc) until we were a couple. Then, he chased me Across America from texas to new york, and even abroad to Spain when I was studying there. We did long distance until I finished university and then I moved to Texas to be with him.

How They Asked

It all started out on Christmas Day when Michael surprised me with an international trip (AUS, NZ & Fiji). I was over the moon excited as this was a dream vacation of mine! At first, I thought nothing of the trip because we had talked about taking more vacations and we would be celebrating my birthday during the trip. On the day of the proposal, we had a lovely day of winery tours and Michael said he wanted to visit one last one before heading back to Brisbane where we were staying. Upon arrival, I was a bit suspicious because according to their website, they were closed, but Michael assured me it was OK because he had made a “reservation”. Little did I know, that reservation would turn out to be the most beautiful surprise proposal. We walked from our car around the back of the main building to a glass gazebo on the side of the mountain. Michael took my hand and walked me in. That’s when I noticed it was filled with a white runway carpet, candles, beautiful blush pink and white roses, and a breathtaking arrangement with a sign that read, will you marry me? That’s when it hit me and Michael got down on one knee to ask me that very same question. It was the easiest ‘Yes’ I’ve ever said!
