How We Met
Billy grew up 5 minutes away (just the town over) from me in Massachusetts, but he moved to Ohio when he was 18 before our paths had crossed. We had a mutual best friend who lived in MA near me and would often go visit Billy in OH, but that was all I knew about Billy for years. In the fall of 2012, our friend passed away. Billy had just recently moved back to MA, but again, our paths didn’t cross because I was away at college. I struggled with the loss of my friend for years. My heart was homesick for the people and town who had loved my friend the same way I had and understood my pain.
In 2014, that friend came to me in a dream and asked me, “Have you hung out with Billy yet?”, so I took a chance and messaged him on Facebook. I was so worried he was going to think I was a weirdo when I mentioned my dream, but he didn’t! We chatted about all of our mutual friends and how strange it was that we had never met. We met up for a drink, started dating almost immediately, moved in together a year and a half later (10 minutes from my childhood home!), and haven’t left each other’s sides since. All thanks to our mutual friend, and a very vivid dream.
How They Asked
For our sixth anniversary we decided to go to the same local restaurant we went to the year before for our anniversary. We had wanted to do a little weekend getaway, but with travel bans in place it just wasn’t in the cards, so it was actually my idea to walk up to the top of Gibbet Hill (right next to the restaurant) where there is an abandoned castle so we could the sunset before our reservation just to make the night a little more special.
Little did I know that Billy started scheming with my best friend who is a video/photographer as soon as I made the suggestion. She met us at the top of Gibbet Hill the night of our reservation and captured the whole thing! The sunset that night couldn’t have been more perfect!
