How We Met

Stefan and I met almost 4 and a half years ago at our local country bar here in Winnipeg, Canada. I would say that the connection was instant, because as soon as I got home that night there was already a message from him on Twitter. From that moment on we talked all day, everyday until we went on our first date a couple weeks later. When I got home from our first date I messaged my best friend and asked if it was too soon to text him! But luckily I didn’t have to wait long to find out.

how they asked

We planned a trip to Jamaica just us two somewhat centred around Valentine’s Day. But little did I know all of the work behind the scenes that Stefan did before our trip and leading up to the proposal.

Stefan suggested that we go walk on the beach and try and catch the sunset. Unfortunately the way the hotel is set up, it’s hard to see the sunset. Bummer! But he still wanted to take a nice picture so he told me to choose the location. So I did! I chose this beautiful spot in front of the ocean with two palm trees on either side. He had originally planned for a lady we met earlier to come meet us and take our picture, but she got sick so Stefan had to scramble to find someone else. Luckily we did and she was able to take some nice pictures while the man of my dreams got down on one knee and asked me to be is wife. At first I thought he was joking and then I am 100% sure that I said yes before he even asked, but hey! I was so excited that this day was finally here.

The sweetest part about it was that he had asked my mom for her permission MONTHS ago. With it being my mom and I for my whole life he knew how important it was for me that he do this small gesture. All those times I thought he wasn’t listening to me, he actually was. Who knew ! I also found out that my grandparents got engaged on Valentine’s Day 60+ years ago. This day was so special in so many ways.
