How We Met
Cam and I met on Coffee Meets Bagel, a dating app, almost 3 years ago. At that time, I had sworn off apps, but I was working on being more open-minded! He asked me out and we had a date planned for the following weekend, but my grandma was in the hospital all week and I told him I couldn’t make the date. I knew he probably thought I just stood him up, but he reassured me that we could go out another time. Then, he didn’t text me. Nothing. So I was getting ready to move on. Thursday night rolls around and I get a text from Cam asking if I wanted to go out that weekend. I hesitantly agreed, but I’m so glad I did! Since I didn’t know him, I asked if we could meet for brunch on Sunday morning. Little did I know, he already had a big party planned on Saturday night for his birthday and yet he still made it out to brunch with me! We went to brunch and then walked around Mission Bay in San Francisco for several hours talking about our beloved sports teams, our passions, and love for travel. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Every year around our anniversary, we go back to that brunch spot to remember where it all began💕
How They Asked
My fiancé (Woah, that’s a new word!) proposed to me at sunset on a small secluded beach in Maui. We had originally planned to travel to China in March, so I could meet his family, but COVID broke out and couldn’t go to China. We then made plans to travel to Barcelona and lastly Hawaii for fear of traveling internationally during the pandemic. Then, we went into lockdown. Instead of lounging on the beaches, we were stuck in our apartment in San Francisco. However, we enjoyed the quality time together and felt like we grew even closer.
Several months later, Hawaii started opening up to mainlanders again and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Neither of us had been to Maui, so we thought this was a perfect opportunity to explore a new island together. During our stay, we enjoyed hiking, snorkeling, and white sand beaches.
We had loose plans every day with dinner reservations almost every night. On Thursday, he said let’s get dressed for dinner a little early because the restaurant is on the beach and we can take some pictures before the reservation. I was pretty ecstatic because he rarely offered a photo session hehe so that probably should have been a big sign for me, but I went with it and we got dressed early.
When we got to the beach, I started looking for the best place to take pictures. I suggested a spot, but he took my hand and led me to the middle of the beach where Marry Me by Bruno Mars started playing. Then, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever. Little did I know, we weren’t going to be the ones taking photos as he had hired a photographer to capture the moment and for a mini photoshoot right after the proposal. The proposal could not have been more perfect. Needless to say, it was definitely worth the wait!
