How We Met
Jacob was working as an attorney in 2018 in Baton Rouge, LA when we met. I had just moved back home to Louisiana after working as a model in Paris and New York. My best friend was newly dating someone who I hadn’t met yet and he and a group of 30 of his friends were at a local bar. Since I was single, I had her text her new boyfriend if there were any handsome, eligible bachelors with him. He responded and said, “There’s only one!” Naturally, my friend and I thought, “What are the odds this one single guy out of 30 men would be a good match? No shot!” We decided to go meet them out anyway so I could meet her new boyfriend. “That one single guy – Jacob – and I were introduced, went on a date the following night, and we’ve been together ever since!
How They Asked
Jacob and I had a Christmas brunch in New Orleans planned with both of our parents. We hopped in an Uber and headed to meet them. When we were getting close to the restaurant, the Uber driver said there was construction in front of the restaurant, so he needed to drop us in a different spot. I thought nothing of it, but little did I know, he was in on Jacob’s hidden agenda! We were dropped off in front of Jackson Square in the French Quarter. Jacob had previously picked out a spot inside of Jackson Square Park where he wanted to pop the question. While on the ride there, the photographer informed him that Jackson Square Park was closed and now he was unable to go with his original plan.
So, a new location was quickly chosen, making an already nerve-wracking occasion even more so! On the walk to the restaurant, Jacob wanted to stop and peak in to “see why the Park happened to be closed today.” As we were peering in, he nervously dropped to one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! The last-minute change of venue, as distressing as it may have been, gave way to the most beautiful backdrop for this momentous occasion!
After the big moment, we went to Antoine’s to have a traditional Christmas Jazz brunch with our parents. Following brunch, we strolled over to the Carousel Bar, where he surprised me, having gathered all of our best friends, and we drank, ate, and celebrated together for the rest of the evening! New Orleans is such a magical city, especially during Christmas time, and it was a perfect setting for an unforgettable day!
