Lora and Nicholas
How We Met:
It was tennis season of my sophomore year of high school when I first met Nicholas. He would show up after school to watch the team play, and eventually I realized that he was starting to take a certain interest in my matches in particular…
We dated for a few short months at that time, but it was nothing serious. Fast forward two years later. Nicholas sent me a message and asked me to go to the Renaissance festival with him. I agreed to go, however, I was not under the impression that it was our first date considering our past history. From then on, Nicholas continued to try to win my heart again until one day we both found ourselves accidentally in love.
how they asked:
Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year. I am a sucker for anything and everything when it comes to Christmas: the lights, the holiday shopping, the yummy food, and most importantly, the tree. Last December was particularly a special time for me, considering I was graduating from college with my Bachelor’s degree. Little did I know, my graduation was not the only memorable event that would occur that month…
So as we all know, most things in life do not go according to plan. Nicholas had planned to pop the question at our favorite spot in Wilmington, North Carolina – at Airlie Gardens. Every year the gardens have a Christmas light festival where guests can stroll through the huge outdoor gardens with hot cocoa in hand. However, a rainy forecast called for a change in plans. Nicholas set me up on a day-date with a friend to distract me while he instead planned an at home proposal.
When I returned home and opened the door, all I could see was a huge curtain with pictures of us covering the front. This excited me because it was a memory from a budget Valentines Day that Nicholas had surprised me with in the past. In the background, I could make out Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful tonight” playing on low. I have always loved this song and consider it one of my favorites of all time. I walked through the curtain to see the living room dimly lit and covered in candles and flowers…
And there he was standing in front of our very first Christmas tree with an important question and a beautiful ring.
After getting over the initial shock and disbelief I FINALLY said yes! Better yet, a video camera had been set up to record the whole thing and another couple served as our own personal photographers to capture the moment!
I have never been one to do well with surprises but this is one that I am glad I knew nothing about!! Next May I will marry my high school sweetheart, and I could not be any more thrilled! Here are some more engagement photos from our photographer Megan, of Lime Green Photography!
