How We Met
Justin and I met through a mutual friend who belongs to the same volunteer fire department as him. I have always said hi to Justin and thought he was handsome and friendly, but I wanted to see where things would go naturally. One day he friend requested and messaged me on Facebook and we decided to get together. We watched a movie at his apartment and he made kettle corn flavored popcorn with M&Ms. It was a great night and being able to watch a movie and hangout was wonderful. Justin did tell me about a few months later that he was extremely nervous that night. I must have been oblivious, because he was fine. After a few weeks of getting together, Justin and I made it official. Our anniversary is August 5th, 2013, since that is the day that we first got together. He is the most kind, support, and funny man I have ever met. When I am feeling not my best, he always does or says something that makes me giggle or I am crying because I am laughing so hard.
how they asked
On March 5th, Justin’s birthday, I wanted to take him out to dinner to a restaurant called 716 (Buffalo’s area code). Justin is a HUGE Sabres fan so going to bars or watching the games at home as been part of our relationship. I am from Buffalo NY and he is from Syracuse, so it was very easy as a hometown girl to get along with someone who loves hockey. I was working Sundays, so after I got home, I quickly changed into a Sabres t-shirt, mind you with no makeup, and hair in a ponytail, and we were on our way. I told Justin that we should park in the parking ramp attached to the restaurant since we were running late and Justin wanted to park down by Canalside and walk through. Canalside is a area in downtown Buffalo that is a boardwalk type of area. It is right by the water, has a nice grassy area, and has an outdoor ice skating rink. There is always something to do there no matter what the season is. I decided since it his is birthday, we parked down by Canalside started walking through.
Buffalo is very cold, so it was 30 degrees so I am walking so fast because its freezing and we were running late for our reservations. Justin calls my name and walks me towards the ice rink to watch people ice skate. I am so cold and Justin says he has had great birthday especially with me in them and wants to make sure I am there throughout every one. He then gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him.
I burst into tears, he stands up, give me a hug and I said yes. He then tells me that the diamond in the ring, is one of my grandmother’s diamonds. I was very close to my grandmother and she passed away almost 2 years ago.
I cry even more and I was so filled with emotions. Friends of ours were taking pictures and gave us flowers, so they were watching us from across the area. We then go to 716 for his birthday dinner, and there are my best friend and her husband and more of our close friends. I can guarantee that he surprised me since he proposed on his birthday.
