One would think a year+ of anticipation would have prepared me (I may have suspected after a little birdie asked my thoughts of engagement rings.), but it didn’t. Jacques proposed in one of our favorite hiking spots, Idyllwild, CA. It never occurred to me in the previous weeks, why Jacques was so determined to go on a hike that day. I unintentionally made things a little difficult for him. I woke that morning not feeling well by any standards and he still insisted we go on a hike. Needless to say, I was not altogether thrilled about it. LOL! (Unfortunately, I suffered a head injury a few years after meeting Jacques and I often have periods of time when I am not able to function to my fullest. It can be frustrating, but we are learning to deal with it day by day.) Once we arrived at the trailhead, I told myself… “It’s just a little walk. One foot in front of another. If my baby wants to go on a hike than that’s what I am going to do. [on repeat in my head] He didn’t make me hike all the way to the planned spot, so it was short, sweet and very much a surprise. Honestly, it’s a blur! After insisting on sitting in the shade for a little rest, I walked around the corner to a lookout where he was very patiently waiting to share with me. (Again, not making it easy for him. Oops!) He got down on one knee and asked. He says my response was, “Are you serious?!”. Needless to say, I was a little confused at first. I started shaking, I cried and then I said yes! After the shock calmed, it ALL made sense. Although the surprise certainly made me feel better that day, I still wasn’t up for the hike, so we hopped in the car and took off. We ended up cruising into Old Town Temecula (which is a city after my own heart) and the day included several yummy meals, a soccer match at an English pub, a candy store raid, an old fashion western photo session and what is typical for us, a fun car drive on back country roads. The day ended up being just as fun and spontaneous as our relationship has been, and we will never forget it!!
