Linette De and Michael

Linette De's Proposal in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

How We Met

I have always loved beauty pageants and started competing for the title of Miss Florida USA in 2012. That exact year I met Michelle Aguirre (Mikey’s Sister), she had competed before and knew everything about the pageant and what we needed to do, know, etc. We became very close and the final night of the pageant she won! I was so happy for her! That night at her coronation ball my best friend introduced me to some of her family members that I hadn’t met before including her brother (My Fiancé!). The minute I saw him I knew that I wanted him to be my boyfriend haha. We spoke for about a minute and then both went on our ways. We didn’t speak or see each other again until a year later when we both flew to Las Vegas to watch Michelle compete at Miss USA. That was when we really hit it off. From the very first night we went out together and pretty much were together all weekend long! When we got back to Miami, we picked up where we had left off in Vegas and were inseparable. 5 years later here we are engaged and so in love!

Linette De and Michael's Engagement in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

how they asked

Mikey LOVES golf! We planned a family trip (or so I thought) for after I finished taking the FL Bar, to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I was so excited to show him where I was born and the wonders of my beautiful country. A couple of months before we left on the trip I told him that I really wanted to go golfing at the resort one day with him. (He was planning on going every day early in the morning). He then suggested that it would be a cute idea to get matching outfits. I didn’t know at the time everything he was planning. When we finally arrived at the resort I was so excited to go play because we were going with his sister and my best friend so I really thought we were going to have a great day. The morning of the proposal he woke up very early and left in a rush to go “figure out the golfing situation.” I started to worry when he wasn’t back within an hour and wasn’t answering my phone calls. On top of that I had my whole family and his family giving me a different reason as to why he was late which was making me think something was going on. Then I finally got a hold of him and we had breakfast quickly so that we didn’t miss our Tee time. The day was great! The best golf day I have ever had. Mikey and I went golfing with his sister and my best friend. We were all taking pictures, laughing, and just having a great time. Then as we were finishing off the 18th hole, I started to pick everything up so we could leave and go hang out with our families. But as we finished Mikey approached me and gave me a golf ball and said that if that was one of the balls we had to put away. I didn’t think much of it because it looked like a regular ball to me. But then he insisted that I really look at it. When I did, I saw that it had printed on it “Will you Marry Me.” I couldn’t believe it! As I glanced up to look at him he was on one knee with the ring and asking me to spend forever with him. It was the most incredible moment. Then as we hugged all our family came running out with balloons that read “Marry Me.” I always thought I wanted a private proposal between the two of us but when I saw our family it just made everything so much better. We were able to celebrate with each other and our families and it was a very special moment for us both.
